Tribute paid to the victims of January 13th events

This morning, commemorating the tragic events of January 13, 1991, in Vilnius, thousands of memorial candles were lit in Lithuania and many other countries of the World.

Remembering our compatriots whose sacrifice allows us to enjoy our freedom today, we also lit these candles at the Lithuanian Permanent Representation to International Organizations in Vienna.

During the night of January 13, 1991, Soviet troops used force and military equipment against the peaceful people defending Vilnius TV Tower, as well as the building of the Committee of radio and Television. As a result, 14 people were killed and more than 800 injured.
