TREATY ON LITHUANIA’S MEMBERSHIP IN EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA INITIALLED

On 3 July in Brussels, the wording of the treaty on the membership of Lithuania and the other future EU member states in the European Economic Area (EEA) was initialled. When the treaty comes into effect, the European Economic Area that currently consists of 15 EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will expand to ten more countries – the EU acceding states. In the future, the 25 EU member states together with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will have a common market, where the same rules for the free movement of goods, services and people will apply.
