THE RIGHTS OF POLISH NATIONAL MINORITY IN LITHUANIA FULLY COMPLY WITH THE EU STANDARDS
With regard to the report on the situation of the Polish Diaspora and Poles abroad, which was announced by Poland‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 17 December, Lithuania‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the rights of Polish national minority in Lithuania fully comply with the European Union standards and in some areas (for example, education) the national minority is provided with even better conditions than in other EU member states.
The political rights of Lithuanian citizens with Polish nationality, their right to receive education in their native language, other freedoms and rights that are secured by Lithuanian laws and implemented in practice - all these points were covered in a comprehensive analysis on the situation of the Polish national minority in Lithuania, which was made by the Department of National Minorities and Lithuanians Living Abroad under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
Lithuania‘s relations with Poland are based on strategic partnership and mutual confidence. As most of the neighbouring countries, Lithuania and Poland solve bilateral issues, including those related to the national minorities. It is most important to solve them constructively and purposefully, cooperating actively and exchanging objective information.
