Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna presented his letter of credence to the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization Dr. Robert Floyd

On September 17, 2021  Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the International Organizations in Vienna Ambassador Mr. Vaidotas Verba presented his letter of credence to the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test- Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Dr. Robert Floyd.

During the meeting, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba and the CTBTO Executive Secretary exchanged their views on the issues high on the organization’s agenda, including the importance of the Treaty's entry into force, timely payments of  assessed contributions to the Organization's budget which are essential for smooth operation of the International Monitoring Station System (IMS), the forthcoming Article XIV Conference to be held on September 23-24, 2021. 

The Executive Secretary pointed out that the entry into force of the Treaty is undoubtedly important, but as important is the practical application of its provisions, which have been successfully applied and working. 

Executive Secretary stated that one of his main priorities’ is to ensure the smooth operation of the CTBTO Secretariat and its decentralization, therefore his aim is to establish the position Chief of Cabinet in the Office of the Executive Secretary. 

Dr. R. Floyd expressed his appreciation for Lithuania’s active participation and reminded about the possibilities to take part in available training to improve expert capabilities and to ensure smooth operation of National Data Center (NDC). Ambassador V. Verba assured that Lithuania would continue to seek close cooperation with the Executive Secretary and the CTBTO.
