OSCE meeting in Prague to discuss ways to confront anti-Semitism in public discourse
PRAGUE, 22 March 2011 – Journalists, politicians, experts and representatives of the OSCE’s 56 participating States are gathering in Prague later this week for a two-day meeting to discuss ways to confront anti-Semitism in the media and public discourse.The meeting, hosted by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is organized by the OSCE’s Lithuanian Chairmanship and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), with support by the Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) Foundation.
The opening session, on Thursday, 24 March, will be addressed by Jiří Schneider, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Ambassador Janez Lenarčič, Director of ODIHR, Rabbi Andrew Baker, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Combating anti-Semitism, and Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.Among the panelists in the working sessions on 25 March will be United States Congressman Christopher Smith and prominent journalists from several OSCE participating States.
Journalists are invited to attend the meeting. The opening session will take place on 24 March at 18:00 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Loretánské náměstí 5, Prague.
It will be followed by the opening of a photo exhibition, “The Jewish World of Yesterday, the Hope of Today: Pictures and Stories from the Centropa Interviews in Lithuania”.
The speakers will be available for interviews following the opening of the exhibition.
Working sessions begin on 25 March at 9:00.
