Memory - A Live Witness
This morning, commemorating the 31st Anniversary of tragic events of January 13, 1991, in Vilnius, thousands of candles of memory, unity and victory were lit in Lithuania and many other countries around the World.
Remembering Lithuania's heores, whose courage and sacrifice allows us to enjoy our freedom today, we also lit these candles at the Lithuanian Permanent Representation to the International Organizations in Vienna.
During the night of January 13, 1991, Soviet troops used force and military equipment against the peaceful people defending Vilnius TV Tower, as well as the building of the Committee of Radio and Television. As a result, 14 people were killed and more than 800 injured.
