LITHUANIA’S REPRESENTATIVES GIVE ATTENTION TO COMPATRIOTS FOSTERING THE LITHUANIAN CULTURE IN THE KALININGRAD REGION

On 20 August, Liuda Kleimionova and Cultural Attaché of Lithuania in Kaliningrad Romanas Senapėdis attended the border zone culture and sports festival that was organized for the first time in Stalupėnai (Nesterov), where they met with representatives from the local authorities.

During the festival, L.Kleimionova and R.Senapėdis welcomed the Stalupėnai ensemble of the Lithuanian Society “Žiedas” (Ring), the Eitkūnai (Chernyshevskoye) Culture House children’s folklore ensemble “Liepona” and the Karaliaučius (Kaliningrad) men’s ensemble “Penki vaike”.

Later, Lithuanian representatives visited the Memorial Museum of Kristijonas Donelaitis in Tolminkiemis (Chistiye Prudy) and welcomed participants of the international painting plenary “Kristijonas Donelaitis. Celebrating the 300th anniversary” that takes place on 15-25 August.

They received commemorative gifts and discussed further cultural cooperation between Lithuania and Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

The organizer of the plenary - the Klaipėda Division of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association - brought ten artists from Klaipėda and Kaliningrad together for creative work.

The artists, who are taking part in the plenary, are staying at the K.Donelaitis house in Tolminkiemis. Their aim is to apply artistic means of expression in order to convey the spirit of the epoch of the father of the Lithuanian literature and to correlate it with today’s life.

On 26 August, the exhibition of paintings by the participants of the plenary will be opened at Kaliningrad’s Museum of History and Art. The exhibition will run until the 22nd of September. On 6 October, it will be displayed in Klaipėda.

Lithuania’s General Consulate in Kaliningrad helped in addressing organizational issues of the plenary. The partners of the plenary are the Kaliningrad region’s Museum of History and Art, and the museum’s branch in Tolminkiemis - the Memorial Museum of Kristijonas Donelaitis.

The Culture Support Foundation of Lithuania and Klaipėda City Municipality financed the plenary.
