Lithuanian Permanent Representative presented his credentials to the Heads of the International Organizations in Vienna

The Permanent Representative of Lithuania Amb. Giedrius Čekuolis on 3 February presented his credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Dr Mr. Yury Fedotov.

On 4 February, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania presented his credentials to the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) Dr. Lassina Zerbo.

In the meeting with Mr. Fedotov, Amb. Čekuolis discussed cooperation between UNODC and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), joint projects by both organizations in crime prevention, justice, human trafficking, illegal migration and border security. Mr. Fedotov acknowledged the biggest financial contribution to UNODC by the European Union and expressed hope that Lithuania will also contribute by making voluntary financial contributions.

Ambassador informed Mr. Fedotov that Lithuania will co-organise a side event during the meeting of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in March entitled “ATOME: Access to Opioid Medications in Europe - a model Project for other regions”. This event will build–upon the initiative of Lithuania during its presidency of the EU Council in 2013 to address the problems of the abuse of prescriptive drugs.

During the meeting with the Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, Ambassador and Dr. Zerbo discussed cooperation between CTBTO and EU, Lithuania, the main event of 2014 – Integrated Field Exercise in Jordan (IFE2014). Ambassador expressed hope that successful IFE2014 will contribute to creating more favourable conditions to universalise the treaty.
