Lithuanian Minister of Energy met with the IAEA Director General
On December 19, Lithuanian Minister of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania Mr Žygimantas Vaičiūnas visited Vienna, where he met with the newly-appointed Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr Rafael Marian Grossi.
Minister presented Lithuanian position on the Astravets NPP and its negative impact on the national security of Lithuania, as well as the environment and public health of the wider region. Mr Ž. Vaičiūnas pointed out on the continued disregard by Belarus of the implementation of recommendations that were set by international experts after the conduct of the EU stress tests. Among other issues the decommissioning of the Ignalina NPP was discussed, including management of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.
