During his working visit, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vygaudas Ušackas will meet Secretary General of the OSCE and Heads of the delegations to the OSCE. Lithuanian Foreign Minister, as incoming OSCE Chairman in 2011 and also as the Chairman of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, will address the OSCE Permanent Council on 22 October.
V. Ušackas is expected to discuss the importance of regional co-operation, security challenges and opportunities, as well as the Corfu Process - OSCE-anchored dialogue on the future of European security. He is also expected to highlight Lithuania's preparations for joining the OSCE Troika in 2010.
The Council of the Baltic Sea States comprises Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden - all OSCE participating States - as well as the European Commission. The Chairmanship rotates annually.
The Permanent Council is one of the OSCE's regular decision-making bodies. It convenes weekly in Vienna to discuss developments in the OSCE area and to make appropriate decisions.
