LITHUANIAN EMBASSY OFFICIALLY OPENED IN IRELAND

On 15 April in Dublin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania officially opened Lithuania’s embassy in Ireland. In his speech of welcome, Minister Valionis stated that the opening of the embassy in this historic spring, when Lithuania returned back to the family of the European countries as a full-fledged member of NATO and the European Union, was an important step in developing bilateral Lithuanian-Irish relations. The Minister expressed his belief that Lithuania would become more familiar to the Irish society as a reliable business partner, an active member of the European Union and an attractive destination for the Irish tourists. Diplomats residing in Dublin, officials of the Irish ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Parliament and the Lithuanian community in Ireland attended the opening ceremony of the embassy. Lithuania’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland Aurimas Taurantas and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps residing in Dublin, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Ireland, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto also welcomed the guests. Archbishop Lazzarotto consecrated the embassy’s premises. At the event, leader of the Lithuanian group “Airija” Nojus Mileris performed. The Lithuanian embassy in Ireland was established on 8 October 2003.
