LITHUANIAN CONSULATE HEADED BY LITHUANIAN HONORARY CONSUL OFFICIALLY OPENS IN ALBUFEIRA
On 13 October in Albufeira, Lithuanian Ambassador to Portugal Algimantas Rimkūnas officially opened the Lithuanian Consulate in Algarve, Portugal’s southern region. The Consulate is headed by Lithuanian Honorary Consul and Chairman of the Council of Albufeira Carlos Sousa e Silva.
This is already Lithuania’s second Honorary Consulate in Portugal. Since 2010, Lithuanian Consulate in central and northern regions has been headed by the Honorary Consul Jorge Antas de Barros, who resides in Viseu.
During the opening ceremony, A.Rimkūnas noted that the Consulate in Albufeira was opened as Lithuania and Portugal were marking the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
He stressed that Portugal had never recognized the annexation of Lithuania and said that he believed that the opening of the Honorary Consulate would contribute to the development of relations between Lithuania and the region of Algarve, which is famous for tourism and agriculture, and would promote tourism between the countries.
The opening ceremony that took place in the Municipal Palace of Albufeira was attended by representatives from the local administration, Honorary Consuls of Angola, Austria, Canada, Poland and Romania, public figures and businessmen. On the occasion of the opening of the Lithuanian Honorary Consulate in Albufeira, a photography exhibition “Lithuanian Landscapes” runs at the Municipal Palace.
