Lithuanian citizens imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp honoured
On May 5th, the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen Concentration camp, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the OSCE and other International Organizations in Vienna Ambassador Aurimas Taurantas paid a visit to the Mauthausen Concentration camp memorial and laid flowers in memory of Lithuanian citizens who were detained there.
According to the data by the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania, from 1938 to 1945 up to 300 Lithuanian citizens were detained at the Mauthausen Concentration camp, of whom up to 70 lost their lives. The Concentration camp and its inmates were liberated on May 5th, 1945, by the allied troops of the United States of America.
