Lithuanian and Kazakhstani diplomats jointly train in preparation for their consecutive OSCE chairmanships A training course to prepare Lithuanian and Kazakhstani diplomats for their consecutive OSCE chairmanships commenced in Vienna on the 1st of June. The two-week joint Training Course is organized by the Centre for OSCE Research (CORE) and the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg. The main aim of the Training Course is to familiarize the officials from Lithuania and Kazakhstan with: - the OSCE activities in the politico-military, economic and environmental, as well as human dimensions of the organization; - the responsibilities that are carried out by a Chairmanship; - the positions of other OSCE member states on the OSCE related matters.
During the Training Course participants will have the opportunity to attend one OSCE Permanent Council meeting.
In his greeting speech on the Training Course opening occasion the Head of the Lithuanian representation to the OSCE, Ambassador Renatas Norkus stressed, that “the essence of the OSCE is about values and principles which all OSCE participating states recognize as being the foundation on which the lives of the peoples and relations between states and nations belonging to OSCE community should be based (the whole text of Ambassador’s remarks is available here).
The Training Course has been organized in accordance with Joint Lithuanian – Kazakhstan action plan for the preparation for the OSCE chairmanships. Twelve diplomats from
Kazakhstan will chair the OSCE in 2010 and Lithuania - in 2011. Besides, the two countries will be in the OSCE Troika throughout 2010-2011.
