LITHUANIA TO CONTINUE PROGRAMS OF TOLERANT SOCIETY EDUCATION

Europe's largest human rights event - the annual review of implementation of OSCE commitments on human rights and democracy meeting (OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting, HDIM) started on 23 September in Warsaw.

The Lithuanian delegation, led by Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the OSCE, Ambassador Giedrius Čekuolis, attended the HDIM event too. "OSCE participating States must exercise policy of intolerance to discrimination and violations of human rights" - stressed in his speech Ambassador G. Čekuolis. Best practices of Lithuania in education programs to promote tolerance and combat racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia were shared with participants, underlining the importance of such programs towards development of a tolerant society.

During the event, experts discuss the need to ensure fundamental human rights and urge OSCE countries to pursue further reforms to improve the human rights and freedoms situation in the OSCE region.

The meeting involved about 500 governmental and non-governmental organizations, including Lithuanian. In the margins of the HDIM sessions, 60 thematic events will be organized that will focus on specific human rights issues in specific OSCE countries.
