LITHUANIA ENCOURAGES THE U.S.A. TO RATIFY THE NEW START TREATY

On 19-20 November at the Summit Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Lisbon, six countries of the Alliance, including Lithuania, encouraged the U.S.A. to ratify the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The new treaty was signed on 8 April in Prague.
“The Washington Post” daily also writes about this in the article “U.S. allies in Europe concerned about a possible failure of New START”. The article of 21 November quotes Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis.“We see this treaty as a prologue, as an entrance to start talks about sub-strategical weaponry, which is much more even dangerous” than the bigger weapons. “We, who are living in Eastern Europe especially, know this,” the daily quotes Foreign Minister A.Ažubalis.
