Lithuania and the United States are strengthening cooperation in narcotic drug control

On March 12, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Department of Drug, Tobacco, and Alcohol Control met with the United States delegation in Vienna at the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). The meeting highlighted the importance of expanding partnership with the United States as Lithuania prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) in early 2027.

Participants discussed joint efforts to address the growing use, supply, and availability of synthetic drugs. They emphasised partnerships among the United States, the Baltic countries, and the European Union, focusing on strengthening land and sea border protection and promoting international law enforcement cooperation.

Lithuania serves as a CND member for the 2026–2029 term. With its upcoming EU Presidency, Lithuania is ready to contribute to international initiatives in this area and host a regional meeting in Vilnius.
