Joint Proposal to Modernize Vienna Document (2011) presented in OSCE

Yesterday, October 23, at the Forum for Security and Cooperation of the OSCE, 32 OSCE participating States, including Lithuania, presented their joint proposal to update the Vienna Document (2011). Georgia has also joined the group of States submitting this proposal, thus raising the number of its supporters to 33.  

This joint proposal aims at modernising the Vienna Document and ensuring that the measures foreseen in it increase transparency over military activities, improve risk reduction, strengthen verification provisions, as well as the Annual Exchange of Information. This proposal presents an opportunity to address today’s European security challenges and help the OSCE participating States to rebuild trust among them.

The co-authors of the proposal encouraged all 57 OSCE participating states to engage constructively in the upcoming discussions on Vienna Document modernization
