INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS IN RELATION TO EU PRESIDENCY IN LITHUANIA
With only a short time until (a bit more than a month) the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, international Presidency meetings begin in Vilnius.
The first meeting will take place this Friday, May 17. The meeting of the EU state and general secretaries will be chaired by Chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jūratė Raguckienė. During the meeting, cooperation of the European External Action Service (EEAS) with EU member states, priorities ofLithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council and Eastern Partnership will be discussed.
The meeting is organized in cooperation with the European External Action Service (EEAS). The EU state and general secretaries will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation of the EU and member states in implementing foreign policy, representing EU in third countries as well as sharing information. The meeting will be attended by Executive Secretary General of EEAS, Pierre Vimont, and Chief Operating Officer David O'Sullivan.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) is the European Union’s diplomatic corps. It supports the EU foreign affairs chief (High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton) in conducting the common foreign and security policy. At the moment EEAS employs 22 Lithuanian citizens.
The traditional EU state and general secretaries summit takes place twice a year, before a new state starts the Presidency of the EU Council.
