EUROPEAN EXTERNAL ACTION SERVICE WELCOMES LITHUANIA’S PREPARATION FOR THE EU PRESIDENCY

On 16 May in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Pierre Vimont, Executive Secretary General of the European External Action Service, to discuss Lithuania’s preparation for the Presidency of the EU Council, the cooperation with EEAS, and key items on the European agenda.

“Lithuania’s Presidency will further closely cooperate with EEAS, including the replacement of Catherine Ashton, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said about meetings in third countries, which the High Representative will not be attending due to a heavy workload.

At the meeting with Linkevičius, the Executive Secretary General of the EU institution responsible for conducting the Union’s common foreign and security policy welcomed Lithuania’s preparation for the EU Presidency.

Vimont also met with representatives of the Office of the President, the Committees on European and Foreign Affairs of the Seimas (Parliament). At the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University, he discussed important issues related to the EU’s common foreign and security policy with students and teachers.

On 17-18 May in Vilnius, the Executive Secretary General of the EEAS is attending a meeting of EU State Secretaries and Secretaries General.
