At the 1245th meeting of OSCE PC – meeting with the President of OSCE PA, discussion on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Safety of Journalists

On October 31, 2019, in Vienna, the 1245th meeting of OSCE Permanent Council was held. The Council has met Mr G. Tsereteli, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. In a discussion with Mr G. Tsereteli, crucial role of OSCE PA in defending OSCE principles enshrined in Helsinki Final Act (1976), Paris Charter (1990) and another OSCE documents was widely underlined. In this context, strong emphasis was also made to the ongoing Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine and Georgia, thus also calling to end it without further delay.

In a more detailed discussion on Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine, EU and its Member States, including Lithuania, expressed their cautious optimism regarding disengagement of Ukrainian and Russian forces, as well as the ones of the armed formations backed by it in Zolote, started on October 29, and expressed hope to see similar process of disengagement in Petrivske soon. In its statement, the EU once again commended Ukrainian leadership for its unwavering commitment to ensure peaceful conflict resolution and called on Russia to act likewise.

On the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, marked on November 2, the Group of Friends on Safety of Journalists, to which Lithuania also belongs, has made a Statement, calling on all OSCE participating States to ensure safety of journalists, and to take all necessary measures so that impunity for crimes committed against journalists is ended (the full statement can be found by clicking the following link).
